Bear Guard
****The Bear Guard's primary goal is to assist in protecting areas to allow inhabitants and employees to conduct their respective jobs by providing adequate bear guard safety. This temporary position will be for twelve (12) hour shifts, on call, during summer months, in camp setting at a remote location.****
Additional responsibilities include:
* Understand controls to prevent bear/human interactions.
* Maintain and update a bear sighting log, to include cooperation with the local community.
* Be aware and understand regulations of being a bear guard.
* Implement all forms and reports required.
* Must be organized and demonstrate the ability to perform the assigned duties.
* Implement site observation and reporting procedures, be able to identify bear tracks, and/or activity.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
* High School diploma or equivalent.
* The Bear Guard must be able to respond immediately and communicate effectively to ensure safety to all persons in the area.
* Successfully completed "Bear Guard" training.
* Must be a certified "Bear Guard".
* Be able to protect workers as a "Bear Guard.
* Perform independently without direct supervision.
* Knowledge/awareness of safety issues.
* Have punctual work history.
* Experience: Fire Arms training; Must have the ability to use a 12 gauge shot-gun and ammunition to provide adequate safety.
* Provide Bear avoidance & human encounter/interaction.
* Must possess current Alaska Identification Card or Tribal Identification Card.
* Preferred Experience: ability to hike long distances in rough terrain.
