Job Details:

+ The Community Health Aide (CHA) provides acute, chronic, emergency and preventive medical health care to village residents under the direction of the medical doctors in Anchorage and according to the CHA/P Manual. The CHA-T level is a training classification for those who do not yet qualify as Community Health Aide I. The Community Health Aide I, II, III, IV and Practitioner are expected to operate within the guidelines of the CHA/P manual and their level of training and the scope of practice consistent with their level of training. CHA II, III, IV, and Practitioner are also expected to act within the limits of their Standing Orders (SO) when applicable.





Minimum Qualifications:





Qualifications for Entry Level - Community Health Aide Trainee (CHA-T):





1. High School diploma or GED.





Additional Qualifications for Community Health Aide I:


Meets all requirements of Community Health Aide Trainee in addition to the following:





1. Successful completion of the TABE test at the 9th Grade level.





2. Successful completion of Emergency Trauma Technician (ETT) or Emergency Medical Technician.Certification must be maintained throughout employment.





3. Complete full time work in a village clinic with 20 customer-owners encounters prior to Session II of the Community Health Aide Training. Involves direct onsite observation, Medical Traffic Evaluation (3 calls), PEF chart review (5 charts or notes) and completion of the PSLN (Post Session Learning Needs) form.





4. Successful completion of the session I (one) of Community Health Aide training program and passing required testing with a grade of 80% or better





2. All certifications must be maintained at current level.





Additional Qualifications for Community Health Aide II:


Meets all requirements of Community Health Aide I in addition to the following:





1. Successful completion of the session II (two) of Community Health Aide training program and passing required testing with a grade of 80% or better.





2. Complete 200 hours of field experience including 60 customer-owner encounters before the next training session. Requires direct onsite observation, Medical Traffic Evaluation (3 calls), PEF chart review (5 charts or notes) and completion of the PSLN (Post Session Learning Needs) form.





Additional Qualifications for Community Health Aide III:


Meets all requirements of Community Health Aide II in addition to the following:





1. Successful completion of the Session III (three) of Community Health Aide training program, passing required testing with a grade of 80% or better. Completion of 200 hours of field experience, including 60 customer-owners encounters prior to the next session of training.





2. This will also involve direct onsite observation, Medical Traffic Evaluation (3 calls), PEF chart review (5 charts & notes) and completion of the PSLN (Post Session Learning Needs) form.





3. Will apply for certification after completing required field training for this level.





4. Current certification by the Community Health Aide Program Certification Board.





5. All certifications must be maintained at current level.





6. In accordance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) it is required to enroll as individual rendering providers with Alaska Medicaid.





Additional Qualifications for Community Health Aide IV:


Meets all requirements of Community Health Aide III in addition to the following:





1. Successful completion of the Session IV (four) section of Community Health Aide training program. Successful completion of the session IV (four) of Community Health Aide training program and passing required testing with a grade of 80% or better.





2. Completion of an additional 200 hours of field experience, including 60 customer-owner encounters or alternative completed to the satisfaction of the designated Supervisor. This will also involve direct onsite observation, Medical Traffic Evaluation (3 calls), PEF chart review (5 charts & notes) and completion of the PSLN (Post Session Learning Needs) form.





3. Current certification by the Community Health Aide Program Certification Board, Level IV.





4. All certifications must be maintained at current level.





5. In accordance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) it is required to enroll as individual rendering providers with Alaska Medicaid.





Additional Qualifications for Community Health Aide Practitioner:


Meets all requirements of Community Health Aide IV in addition to the following:





1. Successful passing of a preceptorship through one on one evaluation by CHA Preceptor for 30 hours minimum direct customer-owner care, performing at least 15 customer-owner encounters as primary provider.





2. Complete credentialing as a CHP with the training center per guidelines.





3. After credentialing as a CHP, complete 48 hours of approved Continuing Education every 2 years.





4. The preceptorship& re-credentialing is to be repeated every 6 years.





5. Current certification as a Practitioner by the Community Health Aide Program Certification Board.





6. All certifications must be maintained at current level.





7. In accordance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) it is required to enroll as individual rendering providers with Alaska Medicaid.
